"They're all a success in their own way" - Johnny Depp

The Brothers Bloom [ B- ]
This was interesting. Not perfect. But an interesting movie too see, not to mention the leads include Adrian Brody (LOVE) and Rachel Weisz, who are both great! It's a story about con artists and their conquests and also a desire for normality. While there were multiple times during the flick when I thought it was over and they revived it to further the story another 30 minutes...the characters are fun and the overall experience was positive.
Dead Like Me: Life After Death [ F... - ]
I didn't watch it past the first few minutes. It was like water torture. Nowhere near where the original seasons set the bar. The movie sent the "franchise" into a conundrum of negativity, bad acting and "potty" words. While the television series included the negativity and foul language, it was crafted into a script and plot that provided intellectual stimulation as well as emotional hills and valleys. I can't suggest not adding this to the queue because I didn't watch it completely through. I, myself however, will be satisfied with the first two seasons (albeit with disappointment the series didn't last longer).

Dead Like Me: Season 1 and 2 [ A- ]
Just watched the pilot yesterday, but this show made me crack up laughing, kinda be creeped out AND fah real fah real cry...and it's just the pilot! More to come, but I can already tell I'm gonna like this show! OH, it's bout this girl who's just died and became a *scary music* Grim Reaper!!! Que screams...Grim reaping, however, is not the shady black cloaks and giant blade things we've come to not really take seriously...nope...G.Rs are simply regular undead folk just tryna live their lives...er...just tryna get to where their going. (The minus was for the sometimes excessive, though mildly entertaining, language)
The Fall [ A ]
This movie was amazing. Simple, yet heart wrenching story and visual stimuli that is...stunning (to say the least). It's from the same director as The Cell, Tarsem Singh, and the artestry of the two movies are remeniscent of one another. While The Cell may have scarred me for life a little (I may have been too young to see it) The Fall leaves its mark in another way. You follow a young girl and man, both injured and hospitalized, on a journey imagined by them both. But this simple fairy tale concocted by the man (Roy Walker), which originially served one purpose, has much deeper meanings to both him and the young girl. I recommend moving this movie to the top of your Netflix queue!
Ip Man [ A ]
A Kung Fu movie to be reckoned with. Ip Man tells the story, based on actual events, of a Chinese Kung Fu master who helps unite the Chinese people and instill hope during war time. Now...this movie kicks butt, literally. The fight scenes are killer, and there's this one move called the "100-fist" or something like that, I mean...WOW! If you're a fan of martial arts movies, I highly recommend this one! What makes it even better is this dude is real!! AND trained Bruce Lee...c'mon, too cool! Sub par vocal sounds aside (er...that is people talking never sounded quite right, almost like bad voice overs) it truly was a great movie!

Moon [A-]
Space man goes crazy. Well, not exactly, but does show successful businesses in an interesting light....oh what we business folk will do for the dollar. This was good. I love Sam Rockwell; I think he's one of my faves.
The New World [ A ]
Unburdened with heavy sound effects and explosions, melodramatics and CGI. The New World begins by cleansing your pallet with an almost overwhelming sense of nature. With a seemingly simplistic approach, the well-known story of Pocahontas is given a refreshing perspective. However, it is not a film for the impatient. You are walked through events at a steady and deliberate pace. Those able to match cadence will be rewarded with a unique experience; filled with satisfaction, as well as longing. The mood is not happy or sad, it's just real. And I can appreciate a healthy dose of reality every once and awhile.
P.S. Colin Farrell is super dreamy with his native Irish accent. ;-) See Ondine (below) for more!
